Tadeusz Mazowiecki’s Reports from Yugoslavia are being published on the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. It was in protest against the passivity of the United Nations and the powerlessness of the international community that contributed to the Srebrenica tragedy that Mazowiecki made the unprecedented decision to resign from his position as Special Rapporteur in the former Yugoslavia. This volume presents the 18 reports that were drawn up during his mission from 1992 to 1995, along with the most important related documents and press materials from the Tadeusz Mazowiecki Collection, held at the Central Archives of Modern Records in Poland, and from private collections. The reports are an important source for studying the history of the conflict and the persecutions and atrocities following the breakup of Yugoslavia. They were later utilized by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the trials of war criminals.

Raporty z Jugosławii Tadeusza Mazowieckiego, specjalnego sprawozdawcy Narodów Zjednoczonych ds. przestrzegania praw człowieka w byłej Jugosławii, ukazują się w 30. rocznicę ludobójstwa w Srebrenicy. Protestując wówczas przeciw bierności ONZ i bezradności społeczności międzynarodowej, które przyczyniły się do tej tragedii, Tadeusz Mazowiecki podjął bezprecedensową decyzję o rezygnacji z funkcji specjalnego sprawozdawcy. Publikacja zawiera 18 raportów, które powstały w trakcie jego misji w latach 1992–1995, oraz związane z nią najważniejsze dokumenty i publikacje prasowe. Podstawą wydania są dokumenty Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych uzupełnione o materiały z Archiwum Tadeusza Mazowieckiego przechowywanego w Archiwum Akt Nowych w Warszawie oraz ze zbiorów prywatnych. Raporty są istotnym źródłem do badań historii konfliktu, prześladowań i okrucieństw po rozpadzie Jugosławii. Wykorzystywał je później Międzynarodowy Trybunał Karny dla byłej Jugosławii w procesach zbrodniarzy wojennych.
