Monografia, podzielona na trzy główne części, podejmuje takie tematy, jak: przemiany przestrzeni miejskich, dylematy globalizacji gospodarczej oraz współczesne wyzwania społeczne. Autorzy analizują najważniejsze zagadnienia związane z procesami regionalnymi i miejskimi w Polsce i w krajach pozaeuropejskich: zrównoważonego modelu rozwoju miasta i regionu, problemów ekorozwoju, dysproporcji społecznych i ekonomicznych między regionami i wewnątrz obszarów miejskich, celi i strategii planowania regionalnego i miejskiego.
